The Trans-Flores road, west to east
From Labuan Bajo the Trans-Flores highway climbs through Ruteng and the Cancar rice fields, on to Bajawa and the Bena megalithic village, then down to Ende and up to Kelimutu for sunrise - finishing near Maumere. It is one of Indonesia's great drives, and on a private tour you stop where you like, for as long as you like.

What is a Flores private tour?
A Flores private tour is a fully private, guided overland trip across Flores island from Labuan Bajo - your own driver-guide, car and route. How is this different from a Komodo boat trip?
A Komodo boat trip stays on the water around the national park. A Flores private tour heads inland - up into the mountains to Ruteng, Bajawa, Ende and the Trans-Flores route - for traditional villages, volcanoes and rice terraces. Can you arrange a private Wae Rebo trek?
Yes. Wae Rebo is usually a 2-day / 1-night trip from Labuan Bajo: drive to Denge village, then a guided 2-3 hour uphill trek to the seven conical mbaru niang houses, with an overnight stay in the village. We handle the Labuan Bajo to Wae Rebo transport, the local guide, the customary welcome and the homestay.
When should I plan a 2027 Flores overland trip?
Start now. The best months for a 2027 Flores overland tour are the dry season, roughly April to October, and the strongest local driver-guides and Wae Rebo dates book out early. Send your rough plans and we will hold the right guide and route while we build the itinerary with you.
Do I need to be very fit for a Flores tour?
Most of a Flores private tour is comfortable driving with short walks - the spider-web rice fields viewpoint and Kelimutu rim are easy. The Wae Rebo trek is the one real effort: a steady 2-3 hour uphill walk on a forest path, manageable at a relaxed pace for most reasonably active travellers.
